General Electric Unveils Light Bulb of the Future

GE has revealed its new 40-watt LED bulb that will last 25 times longer than traditional bulbs (which are being phased out in the United States).

The bulb is part of GE’s Energy Smart line and is produced to last 25,000 hours compared to the typical 1,000-hour lifespan of incandescent bulbs.  When used for three hours a day, the new LED bulb will last for 23 years; used for four hours a day it will last an impressive 17 years.

Here in the Bryan/College Station area, we are becoming serious about being green and taking care of our community and the world around us.  This is a great way to begin in our own homes!

Additional appealing points to the new bulb:ge-bulb-20100413-600

  • They give off light in all directions, not focused in one spot like previous designs.
  • They are very efficient; using nine watts to give off the equivalent amount of light of a 40-watt incandescent bulb.
  • Meets Energy Star criteria for energy efficiency.

lWill you be the first one in your neighborhood with the light bulb of the future?
