John Lingsweiler’s background gives him a style that is a little different from anyone else. He graduated from Texas A & M University in 1988 with a BBA in Finance/Accounting. You may recall that this was the time when the Savings and Loans Crisis created the greatest banking collapse since the Great Depression of 1929. By 1989, over half of the Savings & Loans had failed, along with the FSLIC fund that was created to insure their deposits. Half of the failed S&L’s were from Texas, pushing our state into recession. Not a great time to be a new graduate looking for a banking job!
John had also been interested in a career in Real Estate and had taken electives in this area. However, as bad land investments were auctioned off in the late 1980s, real estate prices collapsed, office vacancy rose to 30%, and crude oil prices fell 50%. Not a great time to pursue entry into the field of Real Estate!
So, with a new wife still in school, John decided to temporarily take a job in the computer field, a booming industry with new technology being introduced almost weekly. He found his niche there, as a Network Administrator at the Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory, located on the A & M campus. John soon realized that his favorite part of the job was interaction with the employees, helping them with their computer needs and adjusting to the rapidly changing technology.
Twenty-five years later, John again found himself impacted by the economy as Texas A & M cut jobs in order to meet state-mandated budget reductions. This time, however, John decided to let his heart rule his career choice. Back to Real Estate! And it is here that he has found it all—the opportunity to integrate financial dealings with the latest technology while helping people! John tells me that he is looking forward to his next twenty-five years as a Realtor® with anticipation!
