GIRL SCOUT SPOTLIGHT: Troop 2113 Says “Heads Up Austin”
In December 2007, Troop 2113 lost their co-leader, Amy, in a car accident. Today, in honor of their leader, the troop is leading a safety campaign, “Heads Up Austin,” for their Bronze Award. They entered a Time Warner Cable PSA contest in the spring and won! Their PSA will air this fall and will promote knowledge of traffic laws and safe driving. GSUSA Partners with The Cheetah Girls One World
Across the country Girl Scouts are watching The Cheetah Girls One World movie together on Saturday, August 23. Learn about viewing parties in Central Texas! Registration forms will be available and accepted at all events.

Vote America!: August 16, Travis County
Girl Scouts and their parents are invited to enjoy this documentary on voting and democracy in America. Attendees 18 years or more can register to vote.

Let’s Go To the Movies: September 5, Travis County
Grab your lawn chairs, blankets, best friends and family, and enjoy a movie under the stars. Tagalongs welcome!

Survivor! Camp: September 6-7, Menard County
Join us for your chance to be a survivor, just like on TV! You’ll lay out your campsites, compete in food challenges and survival games, and search for the hidden immunity mascot.

Race on the River: September 13, Tom Green County
Get ready for the greatest canoe race in Central Texas! Compete in the race or cheer on your fellow Girl Scouts. The qualification deadline has been extended to August 27. Check in is Saturday at 11 a.m. and the fee has been reduced to $15.

Mom & Me Beach Ball Blast: September 13-14, Brown County
Bring your favorite lady to Camp Wood Lake for a day of limbo, laughter, beach ball fun and a talent show!

Volunteers

Volunteer Opportunity
On the second and fourth Thursday of each month, much needed office support tasks will be organized for volunteers. Help our council by assisting with data entry, returning phone calls and more for just a few hours each month. See times and locations.

Learn about Polar Bears!
Get your girls excited about “Going Green” for this year’s Fall Product Program by learning about our new mascot, the Polar Bear! The World Wildlife Fund’s web site has information about the threatened species as well as ways you can help protect polar bears.

FOGS Update: 106% of goal!
The Friends of Girl Scouting campaign helps make Girl Scout programs available to every girl. Thank you to the thousands of volunteers who made this year’s campaign our most successful ever. Thirty service units met or exceeded their goal! Special congratulations to Lady Bird, Lakeline, and Rocky Trails service units for outstanding performances and to La Grange, Dripping Springs, and Somerwell service units for high participation.
