Bryan College Station Local Grocers and Farmers Market
February 26th, 2010 Categories: Community Events, Kids, Family & Personal Stuff
Bryan/College Station is a very unique place. The sister cities have most everything you’d find in a big city, but alternatively it’s got quite a bit you wouldn’t. What makes it so special is the amount of farms and food producers around. This area of Texas is one of the agricultural boons of the U.S., not to mention A&M University has some of the most premier agricultural researchers. We are surrounded by some of the freshest, healthiest meats and vegetables in Texas; that makes Bryan/College Station one of the best places to shop for food. Be it our farmers’ markets, local grocers, or A&M’s meat market, you can find some of the most delicious foods in our quaint little sister cities.
HEB and Kroger’s are great grocery stores as well, but if you’re looking for fresh Read the rest of this entry »

Survived Teen Driving at Texas World Speedway!
August 26th, 2009 Categories: Community Events
Well we survived the Teen Survival Driving Academy on Sunday!
My 16 year old daughter took the class out at the Texas World Speedway with a certified race driver in the front seat and my husband in the back - white knuckles and all. My daughter did great!
The students did a lot of weaving between cones, slamming on the brakes, swerving and even running over a few orange cones. They learned how long it takes for a car to actually stop, how anti lock brakes work, how a car reacts when you swerve, it is better to swerve and THEN hit the brakes rather than hit the brakes a you are trying to swerve and much more. I was very impressed with how well the kids did and how much they learned.
My husband didn’t do quite as well. He bit his tongue and had white knuckles but he survived riding with her too. He even admits that he learned quite a bit too!
He enjoyed actually getting to drive around the Texas World Speedway at the end as a special treat.
I’m very proud of how well they BOTH did!

Teen Survival Driving Academy in College Station at Texas World Speedway!
July 23rd, 2009 Categories: Community Events
- As a driver, you will make more decisions in one mile than a 747 captain does flying across country.
- Automobile crashes are responsible for more teen fatalities than alcohol, drugs and violence COMBINED.
August 16th I am sending my daughter to the Texas World Speedway Teen Survival Driving Academy in College Station.
No- she is not a bad driver. She is just a teen driver. The TWS TSDA (Texas World Speedway Teen Survival Driving Academy) is NOT a racing school! It is designed “to place students in real world scenarios and show them how to take control and avoid dangerous situations. They will work on collision avoidance and car control skills. Now that I think about it, I know a few adults (myself included) that should probably attend…
The Academy recreates dangerous situations and teaches (in a controlled environment) how to take control of the situations and make life saving decisions.
This is a 4 hour couse which includes classroom and hands on driving activities. With the instructor, the student is given tools to avoid an accident. Students are encouraged to bring their own vehicle that they will be driving on a regular basis. The activities are done at a low speed and should not hurt the car. If you don’t want to use your own car, one can be provided.
Parents are encouraged to attend the 4 hour course too!!!
So, get your teenager registered and join us. And come back to this blog again to see the photos and videos of the event. I bet we can all learn something together.

Whistling Straits Party Benefits Brazos Valley Food Bank and Hurricane Ike Relief Efforts
October 3rd, 2008 Categories: Community Events, Home Improvement & Design, Pebble Creek, The Realtor's Life
Thursday, September 25, a benefit was held at 5203 Whistling Straits in support of the Hurricane Ike relief efforts. Many local firms were willing to donate items to the silent auction, and all proceeds from the auction went to the Brazos Valley Food Bank, who helped to get the money into the right hands.
Some of the items donated were: An area rug from Aggieland Carpets, several pieces of artwork by Aggie artist Benjamin Knox, a bottle of wine from JJ Ruffino, a $100 gift card to The Republic from Wade Barkman, Kohler bath hardware, a prep sink and a lavatory sink all from Moore Supply, a lamp from Susan Tremont, an under-counter refrigerator from Factory Building Stores, a framed picture from Myra’s Gallery and Custom Framing, a painting kit from Monarch, and French doors from Grand Door Co. to be stained by Rob Crowley.
Hors d’oeuvres were provided by The Republic and prepared on location by chef Brian Light. There was also a bar set up in the outdoor kitchen serving drinks all night. Procedes from the bar also went to the Hurricane Ike Relief fund.
Benjamin Knox, who designed the house, and builder Rob Crowley were available to answer any questions about the house which finished construction recently. Guests came and went from early evening until around 10:00 at night. Overall, everyone who came had fun enjoying the food, drinks, and touring this beautiful, one of a kind house. All of the guests were also very generous and giving, raising over $3000 dollars in the auction to go to the relief fund.
Thanks to everyone who attended this event as well as all of the companies who donated towards the auction and the relief fund. It was truly a showing of the spirit of Aggieland, and our willingness to come together and help when there is a need.

College Station: Fun for the Whole Family! (Part Three of a Three Part Series)
September 12th, 2008 Categories: Community Events
Here is the final installment of this three part series, where we will look at places that parents can take their younger kids for a day out.
Entertainment Facilities
If you are really looking for a way to keep the kids busy all day, at a place they will love, try one of these places:
Gattitown- With things like a game room, sports room, theatre, café, and, of course, pizza buffet, Gattitown insures that the kids will never run out of things to do.
Chuck E Cheese- This has long been known as a great place to book a birthday party for the kids. Tons of games, rides, and plenty of food is sure to put a smile on the kid’s faces. Plus, their new kid check program makes sure everyone is well looked after; so mom and dad can sit back and relax without having to chase the kids around. Don’t forget to get a picture with Chuck!
Grand Station Entertainment- Locally owned and operated, Grand Station has more of an aggie feel when you walk through the doors. This great family entertainment center was recently remodeled to include 40 lanes of bowling, laser tag, glow-in-the dark mini golf, birthday party rooms, conference room, arcade gallery, sports bar and food court. With so much to do, no one will be left out.
All of these are relatively inexpensive and can be fun for the parents as well.
