Aggieland Get Your Boots on and Support Our Troops!

Today is Veteran's Day, which is a day that makes us all reflect on the sacrifices our troops past, current, and future have made for our freedom!  We are so blessed to live in a country where we are free all because of the selflessness of those who have chosen to serve.  Today is a good day for me to announce my participation in the Boot Campaign. The Boot Campaign is a grassroots initiative started by five women from Texas known as the Boot Girls. The campaign provides an easy and tangible way for Americans to show appreciation for troops (both past and present), raise awareness of the challenges they face upon return and donate funds to charities supporting their transition home. Proceeds from boot sales are donated to partner charities, who assist returning veterans and active troops dealing with emotional, mental and physical issues. Their mantra is..."When They Come Back, We Give Back!"  What better way to say thank you to our troops this Veteran's day than sporting a pair of boots just like theirs? So join in the growing chorus of musicians, entertainers, athletes and other celebrities and get YOUR boots on!  I laced up my boots in support and and...

Utility Poles – Attachments a Risk?

Are attachments to a utility pole really a risk? Why does the city get so upset with signs, basketball hoops, birdhouses, dog scooper bags and trash containers attached to a pole? Other than how it looks, does it really matter? As much as I don't want to admit it - Yes it really does matter. I'm pretty strong in my belief that many times we have rules that just shouldn't be there. We have rules to have rules or rules so that someone can exert their beliefs over someone else. BUT, I am all in favor of rules when they actually protect.   When there is a small nail partially driven into a utility pole it could cause harm to a line worker.  How?  If this small nail pierced a line worker’s glove it could cause the worker to lose their protection from high-voltage electricity. Anything attached to a utility pole could cause a hole which makes that line worker at risk for electrocution. So, is the sign you want to post really worth it?  NO! According to the National Electric Safety code unauthorized attaching of anything unapproved to a utility pole is a crime up to $500 per day. Who knows what...

Bryan/College Station Ranks #3 in the US by Forbes for best small cities for jobs

Any time a client tells me they are nervous about selling their home or a buyer says they are concerned about buying due to the economy, I always remind them that every market it different and unique.  They need to take many things into account locally when deciding to buy or sell.  One of the most important things that can spur on a housing market and economy is job growth.  Forbes has just ranked Bryan/College Station  #3 small city for jobs in the entire United States! This is just a sign of the growth we are having and will continue to have in the future.  When people need jobs, they look to areas where jobs are located, and luckily for us Aggieland is one the top cities in the US! Best Small Cities for Jobs Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood, TX Bismarck, N.D. College Station-Bryan, TX Midland, TX Dubuque, Iowa Odessa, TX There are so many things to be positive about when thinking about the housing market and growth of our local economy now and in the future.  The Research Valley Partnership is working diligently(and successfully) to bring businesses to Bryan/College Station as well as the growth of the Bio-Corridor, Texas A&M Health Science Center, and the new Scott and White Clinic which opens in 2013.  All of these things are...

Fun Friday Stork Post for College Station New Parents

This was just TOO fun to not post! What fun it is to welcome a new baby into the world and make Mom & Dad Leatherwood smile! Working with Emily at The Stork Market in Bryan College Station was SOOOO easy! Just a phone call (or email to emily@thestorkmarketbcs.com) and now there is a giant stork in the Leatherwood's front yard. The sign is rented for 7 or 10 days and comes with a hand painted star with baby Jax information for the Leatherwood family to keep. It was VERY VERY easy with Emily delivering and picking up the HUGE Stork too!
