Thursday, September 25, a benefit was held at 5203 Whistling Straits in support of the Hurricane Ike relief efforts. Many local firms were willing to donate items to the silent auction, and all proceeds from the auction went to the Brazos Valley Food Bank, who helped to get the money into the right hands.
Some of the items donated were: An area rug from Aggieland Carpets, several pieces of artwork by Aggie artist Benjamin Knox, a bottle of wine from JJ Ruffino, a $100 gift card to The Republic from Wade Barkman, Kohler bath hardware, a prep sink and a lavatory sink all from Moore Supply, a lamp from Susan Tremont, an under-counter refrigerator from Factory Building Stores, a framed picture from Myra's Gallery and Custom Framing, a painting kit from Monarch, and French doors from Grand Door Co. to be stained by Rob Crowley.
Hors d'oeuvres were provided by The Republic and prepared on location by chef Brian Light. There was also a bar set up in the outdoor kitchen serving drinks all night. Procedes from the bar also went to the Hurricane Ike Relief fund.

Last December was the first time Wei Jing received a Christmas gift. An aid worker to an elementary school in south China handed her a brightly wrapped package the size of a shoe box. When each of her classmates had one, the school faculty and aides counted down three-two-one. Everyone opened their present at the same time.

All around the schoolyard expressions were the same - amazement that this gift was specifically for them. Squealing with delight at receiving a gift from someone on the other side of the world they had never met. Toys, school supplies, and toiletries are just the beginning of the gift.
Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes. Since 1993, more than 61 million shoe boxes have been packed, shipped, and delivered across the globe. People of all ages can be involved in this simple, hands-on missions project while focusing on the true meaning of Christmas—Jesus Christ.
National Collection Week is November 17-23. Contact

Here is the final installment of this three part series, where we will look at places that parents can take their younger kids for a day out.
Entertainment Facilities
If you are really looking for a way to keep the kids busy all day, at a place they will love, try one of these places:
Gattitown- With things like a game room, sports room, theatre, café, and, of course, pizza buffet, Gattitown insures that the kids will never run out of things to
do.
Chuck E Cheese- This has long been known as a great place to book a birthday party for the kids. Tons of games, rides, and plenty of food is sure to put a smile on the kid’s faces. Plus, their new kid check program makes sure everyone is well looked after; so mom and dad can sit back and relax without having to chase the kids around. Don’t forget to get a picture with Chuck!
Grand Station Entertainment- Locally owned and operated, Grand

The Park
With over 50 different parks in College Station, you are never far away from an afternoon of fun. Each park offers a different set of activities for the family to enjoy, such as: jungle gyms, slides, swings, basketball courts, baseball/softball courts, walking trails, and even disc golf. With so much to do, it is no wonder the city takes such pride in their parks. The College Station Parks and Recreation Department’s mission statement pretty much says it all about their parks, “To provide a diversity of facilities and leisure services which are geographically and demographically accessible to our citizens.”
Here are a fe
w of the parks I recommend:
1. Anderson Park- This park was initially created to alleviate the overcrowding of soccer fields in College Station. It now contains five youth soccer fields of various sizes, along with two basketball courts, a playground, a shelter with rest rooms, and parking for 30 cars. With tons
