Drowning in a Drought in Bryan College Station Texas
August 30th, 2011 categories: Bryan Homes
Drive through many neighborhoods in Bryan/College Station from Pebble Creek to Castlegate to the Historic District, in the middle of the afternoon and you will see water in the street due to someone overwatering their lawn. With drought conditions in full force in Bryan/College Station it is more important than ever that we water our lawns correctly. It has been shown that the average homeowner over waters their lawn 20 to 40% due to improper watering techniques. This equates to a lot of wasted water and money. Below are 5 easy to follow tips that you may want to keep in mind. Water in the morning. It has been shown that water evaporates 4 to 8 times faster in the hot afternoons than it does in the cool mornings. Water longer and less frequently. Water approximately 1.5 - 2 inches once a week to promote deeper root growth. The way to determine the dispersion rate of your sprinklers is to set coffee cans around your yard and measure how much water has collected in a set time Do not collect your grass clippings. Leaving the grass clippings helps your lawn retain moisture. Use mulch in your flower beds. This helps the beds retain moisture as...| Discussion: 1 Comment »

2010 Lights on in Downtown Bryan
December 1st, 2010 categories: Bryan Homes, Buying Real Estate, Community Events, Kids, Family & Personal Stuff, Restaurants & Fun, Selling Real Estate, The Realtor's Life
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas especially in Downtown Bryan! My family and I went to the annual "Lights on in Downtown Bryan" where all the lights in the entire downtown area were lit simultaneously! There were many different musical groups and choir performances, a visit by Kaboom, and a countdown to the big flip of the switch! Many businesses were serving hot chocolate and the businesses in downtown were decorated for the season! It is so nice to live in and sell homes in a community that still holds old fashion celebrations like "Lights on"! There will be a wonderful First Friday's this Friday complete with carriage rides, musical entertainment, and other special events! Aggies are GETTING THEIR BOOTS ON in a big way! You can too! So what is the Boot Campaign.... The Boot Campaign is a grassroots initiative started by one of my friends, Heather Fordham, and 4 other women from Texas known as the Boot Girls. The Boot Campaign is a new way Americans can show their support for our active duty service members and veterans. This grassroots campaign has captured the attention of American celebrities and civilians – from professional athletes, politicians, country music stars and more – and is quickly gaining momentum. Money raised will support troops and veterans through the work of the Lone Survivor Foundation and other charities. The Boot Campaign provides Americans with a tangible way to give back to our troops by buying a pair of combat boots and proudly wearing or displaying them. So “Get Your Boots On” to help show appreciation of our military heroes who serve and sacrifice everyday for our nation! For more information on the boot campaign go to the website http://www.bootcampaign.com Come get your boots on this Saturday at the Nebraska game! For more information, see below!
