Century 21 Beal Inc, is the only real estate office in the nation with THREE 30 under 30 agents working in their office! Below is an interview with Raylene Lewis, Realtor.
Susan Hilton: Why did you decide to try a career in real estate?
Raylene Lewis: I was a elementary teacher who didn’t want to go back to teaching.
Susan Hilton: What has been your biggest surprise in being in real estate?
Raylene Lewis: I was surprised with how well you can do if you put your mind to it but also how much you have to work and how self-disciplined you have to be!
Susan Hilton: What do you feel is your greatest strength in real estate sales?
Raylene Lewis: I love a challenge and I am a work horse! I am a good at advertising, marketing and sales. With my family’s history, I guess you could say it is in my blood. Also, I love my job and that makes a Huge difference! You must be genuinely enthusiastic to succeed at what you do!
Susan Hilton: What do you do with your clients that makes them keep sending you business over and over and over?
Raylene Lewis: I put forth my best effort and really put their best interest at the very top when working with them. I care deeply about my clients, and I think it shows. I look at what they need now, and what needs they may have in the future and try to find something that accomplishes both sets of goals.
Susan Hilton: Why do you think you are still in the business while most agents don’t make it in this industry?
Raylene Lewis: I think it is because I work hard and I am constantly adapting, learning and changing how I do business. This industry is changing constantly, and I see the importance of keeping up with the changes in order to provide the best services to my clients.
Susan Hilton: What makes your clients so loyal and special?
Raylene Lewis: They know I truly care about them and I try to stay in touch so they know I am there if they have a maintenance problem and need help or if they want to do some upgrading/remodeling. My service doesn’t end with the sale.
Susan Hilton: If you had to do it all over again how would you do it differently?
Raylene Lewis: I think I would have done a better job of getting to know the other agents in this town sooner and “visited” more. I am not that great at “visiting” because I am always working. It is important to know if you can trust the other agent on the transaction. I want every agent I work with to know that I will do my best to make the deal smooth and easy. I have learned that with experience. If I had it to do over again, I would work hard to come off as less aggressive to them than I did when I got started.
Susan Hilton: What’s the greatest piece of advice you can give to a new agent getting into the real estate business?
Raylene Lewis: Find someone who knows the business and intern for them for a while first. You will learn what you need to know to succeed. I have been working in this business for 10 years and there is still a lot that I don’t know. Technology is hard to understand and then even harder to stay on top of. The learning never stops, but when you start as an agent you think you know what you need to know, but you’re not even in the same ball park as an experienced agent.
Susan Hilton: Why do you think Bryan College Station has such successful real estate agent?
Raylene Lewis: TAMU brings in students and other departments and businesses that help growth for the city.
Susan Hilton: How do you use technology in your real estate business?
Raylene Lewis: I use it in every aspect and couldn’t live with out it.
Susan Hilton: Why did you choose Century 21 Beal?
Raylene Lewis: It had the best group of people to work for and with. I work here because the atmosphere is more team like and I have non competing brokers to assist me.
Susan Hilton: Why do you stay at Century 21 Beal?
Raylene Lewis: The same reason I chose C21. No hidden agendas, just good, solid, honest and trustworthy brokers and agents. I only want my name associated with the best.
Susan Hilton: What is the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to you in real estate? What’s the oddest or strangest thing that is ever happened in real estate?
Raylene Lewis: I have been quoted in articles with yahoo, HGTV and mint.com. It is nice to be a nationally recognized expert on real estate. I have a very long list of odd and strange. I am even mentioned in a book at Barns and Nobles about humors and heart warming real estate stories.
Susan Hilton: Tell me a funny story about a real estate experience.
Raylene Lewis: I’ll never forget the kids and the pink buckets—not knowing why they were carrying them around until the mom explained they had the flu and one got sick and used the bucket…or the boa constrictor in the closet, or being attacked by a black shadow ghost thing in a house, or walking in on clients who were high from smoking weed, or walking in on a house that had been egged on the inside, or walking in on the guy that had just attempted suicide and having to call 911, or walking in for inspections and having the ceiling fallen in, or having the ac guy fall through the ceiling when making the repair the day of closing, or selling the home 4 people had been murdered in, or showing the home with bloody handprints on the carpet…I could go on ….I guess when you deal with the public, you get a lot of funny and strange stories! That is just one of the perks of the job….it is RARELY boring.
Susan Hilton: Do you buy investment real estate?
Raylene Lewis: Yes.
Susan Hilton: What do you look for when you purchase investments?
Raylene Lewis: 8% minimum return and easy to resell if need be.
Susan Hilton: Where do you see yourself in five years?
Raylene Lewis: Probably here, but I would like to do other things too…I have been doing this for 10 years.
Susan Hilton: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Raylene Lewis: Retired? Maybe in 15!
Susan Hilton: Tell me a little about your family.
Raylene Lewis: 3 kiddos, 3 dogs, happily married to my best friend. I love camping, movies, laser tag, playing Zelda with my oldest, reading with my daughter who just learned how and watching my kids dance. I’m a Star Trek and Lion king fan and I’m known in the office for animal rescue. I try to donate anything a seller leaves behind to a family in need when I can…
