Watering the Street Will Not Make it Grow - Even in Aggieland

Watering the street?Driving back from the gym in College Station, the other morning I passed several houses with irrigation systems watering the street. Besides wasting a lot of water it costs you money. How do you know when your automatic irrigation system is not working as designed? You set it to start while we are asleep and we assume it is working properly but how do you know?

During the heat of the summer, when rain is scarce, it's very noticeable. Some areas are nice and green and others are hard and brown. If your yard has some of those brown areas it could be several things. The first thing to check is (more...)

Aggie Brainwashing Starts Early

jr-aggie-resize.jpgYou see it at almost every sporting event you go to in town. Mom's and dad's dressing their kids up in Texas Aggie clothes from almost birth. A maroon shirt with "I'm a little aggie", "Aggie Class of 2027" and many others. Sometimes this brainwashing works and sometimes it doesn't. As the number of Aggie graduates increase, the number of kids of former students making their way back to Aggieland also increases. Some residents might not like it but a lot of us depend on those same kids for jobs. Just think of all the restaurants in town. I admit that there is probably and overkill when it comes to Mexican food, Chinese food and pizza but this is changing all the time. If you are not working in a restaurant directly you might have been part of the construction, part of the ongoing maintenance, delivered the signage, developed the advertising or even better, received the deposits from the night before.
